Jim Houser | Message Bearer

June 16, 2014

JimHouser and I have been friends for many years, in fact, in the mid ‘90s he worked for me cutting stickers. I’m a big fan of his art. His work captures a specific whimsy and its aesthetic has quintessentially become his signature. Jim is a great artist who continues to produce thoughtful and accessible work and I’m excited that he is participating at Art Alliance Chicago July 31- Aug 4. Painter and installation artist Jim Houser has always seen his work as a poetic catalog of everyday experience. Using a variety of techniques, including figures, hand-drawn typography, patterns, line work, and flat color, Houser has developed a pictorial language that explores diverse interests, including speech cadences, science fiction, sports, ghosts, children’s pictures, and codes. For an exhibition in 2009, he composed a soundtrack of original instrumental music that interpreted the tone, rhythm, and syncopated repetition of his artwork.
